Apr. 15th, 2009 10:04 amGreetings from the resort of Camarillo. I am concentrating on relaxing, walking occasionally, and visiting. Of course the walking around here is phenomenal. Every day we go to the hill and traverse its paths. It is a pleasant maze of sage, fennel, wild oats and other chapparal . The view of the valley (whatever valley that is between Santa Paula and Camarillo) is mind bogglingly beautiful. It is a green patchwork of strawberry fields, raspberry farms, and avocado and citrus orchards.
Casey the lab goes off on industrious forays into the bushy tunnels, rolling in whatever fine smells she finds. While we are thinking we are taking the "new trail" or the "short cut" she is undoubtedly thinking, "Ah let's take the trail of the rotting squirrel" or "the trail of the coyote poop."
Roger follows along pulling off handfuls of wild oats and dumping them into holes. Of course his very most favorite activity is finding airsoft pellets and collecting them for his ever growing collection in a jar. I will leave it to him to leave a comment noting just how many he now has. Kasey unwittingly collects the occasional tick. Hopefully we don't.
Yesterday we had fierce winds-- blowing at Santa Ana force but from the west. That is weird. Sand and dust were blowing inland from the Santa Paula riverbed. It is gorgeous and sunny outside but chilly.
One personal goal I have for each day is to get up early enough so that I don't have a culture shock next week when I have to get up at 5 am. I'm not doing too bad; I've been getting up at 6:45! Such an accomplishment.
Today's real task is to shop and cook for a dinner party Roger has orchestrated for his colleague Bev R. & her husband, as well as a neighbor, Myron (he who is the Esperanto speaker.) Each of them has Norwegian connections. We are to cook a Norwegian meal for them. We have settled upon Faar i Kaal, a lamb and cabbage dish.
Shall we speak Norwegian or Esperanto?
