Blatant plea for help:
I recently wrote and then tried to send a document from my new computer, the Vaio. It went out as a docx and was thereby completely unreadable by our other computer (a dell), our printer, and most annoyingly, by the entity to whom I had sent it. It being a job cover letter, I was most distressed. I have tried to redo it and save it as a doc instead of the docx, but had trouble so far. Kris tells me that this is a special VISTA problem.

I would welcome any advice which you may have to share with me.

IN OTHER NEWS:

This was a most successful weekend. We went to Camarillo for a one- week- delayed celebration of Father's Day. In honor of the father in question, I perused one of my wilderness haunts and was able to collect for his enjoyment a large collection of air soft pellets. (He has a collection. Don't ask.)

A strange and beautiful,  albeit spooky, event occurred while I was in the process of collecting the pellets. I first heard a howl. I thought, "Wow, that sounds a lot like a coyote." Then a moment later, it was joined by at least two other coyotes. So there I was, at ten am and in the 80 degree sunshine on a Saturday morning, listening to a  serenade of coyotes who had to have been no more than a hundred yards away from me. (Bizarre event #1)

Upon arriving home, O alerted me to the fact that I had to renew my passport. I was annoyed, since he is Mr. Organized and the one who should have noticed this long ago. Vowing to take care of all that on Monday, I went to the library to pick up a book or two on CD. Upon arriving there, I decided to check into the passport office they have there. It turned out that they were not at all busy at the time. So I returned home, got the necessary documents and came back to process my passport renewal. An hour later I was back at home, having paid an extra $35 for expedited passport processing and having accepted a less than glamorous photo, all for the privilege of being done with it. Who even cares about a dorky picture in which I am sweaty from my recent adventure being chased by coyotes while in pursuit of the perfect father's day gift. (This was good luck, disguised as bad luck.)

We eventually left for the two and a half  hour drive to Camarillo. About 25 minutes down the road, Mr. Organized remembered after being reminded by the other person in the car that he hadn't brought his running shoes for the triathlon he was competing in the next morning. So we turned around. Hummph. Eventually we got back on our way. (This was plain and simple bad luck-- or dumbness.)

Somehow, one of the attributes of the Prius which makes it a Very Fine Car, is its extensive range with the gas mileage. Somehow this translates into a big panic when the gas gets low. One can cruise for a bit on just the electric motor, but that's pretty much a limited opportunity. So we stopped at Costco in Oxnard for gas. As we were leaving, I called Roger. As it happened, he was just leaving Costco himself. So we rendezvoused, I got in his truck, and we left for the marina while O left for the race venue to get his registration papers. (This rendezvous was plain and simple good luck, possibly even pure serendipity. What are the chances that youa re going to accidentally meet up with someone 100 miles from your home???)

Eventually Roger and I had the boat rigged and Mr. O showed up and we all went sailing. The highlight, at least in my mind, was going out to sea. O thought for sure that we were rounding the Horn when he saw the washing machine like conditions, but it was quite doable and allegedly not even as bad as usual. The low light was that, though it was a toasty 90 degrees at home, it was quite cold and clammy at the shore. I was fine while sailing but needed a generous post- sailing dose of fish and chips and indoor dining, followed by a hot shower and fire in the fireplace at home to recover from the penetrating cold that overtook us as we took down the sails and packed up. If you know me at all, you know that it is very out of character for me to complain of the cold.  Well, I didn't complain. But I did grit my teeth and look forward to that toasty fish and chips.

Sunday morning we left the house at 5:15 am to go to O's triathlon at Buena Ventura State Beach. Fortunately, he did have his shoes. I always scan these kinds of crowds for familiar faces. I know they must be there, but I didn't see more than a few of O's friends from work and then one other rather odd woman I've seen before. (No special luck there. She's definitely odd enough to notice even in a crowd of 1000.)

Tomorrow I will regale you with whatever fun facts  (and pictures!)  I can share with you about today's adventures at a childhood lost hangout--El Potrero.. But I can tell you that it included a Pedro's taco, a bee sting or two. And shoes. All very good luck.
